Approach to Tutoring:

Fionn is passionate about giving students the skills required to thrive in any academic environment. By breaking down subjects into their simpler components, Fionn helps ‘build up’ students in a way that gives them a foundation from which to develop their own personal ‘voice’.

By establishing an amicable relationship with the student, Fionn makes sure that every lesson is enjoyable, yet at the same time focusing on developing the skills and knowledge base required to succeed.

He prepares personalised lessons that ensure the student is confident for any upcoming assessment tasks. More than anything, he is passionate about helping students perform to their best possible level

Biography:

Fionn grew up in the country town of Bowral. After skipping Grade Four to expand his academic horizons, in 2012 his parents took him out of school and spent an entire year travelling around Australia. During this time, he was homeschooled, as well as being educated culturally in ways well beyond the syllabus.

From Year 7, he was awarded an academic scholarship to attend Cranbrook School as a boarder. He flourished in all aspects of school life, being awarded the leadership roles of Head of House, Head of English, Outward Bound Mentor and Captain of Cricket. He was also a member of the 1st III Debating and 1st IV Chess.

After completing Mathematics and Mathematics Extension One in Year 11, Fionn studied largely the humanities in Year 12. Fionn is studying a double degree of Laws combined with Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the Australian National University in Canberra, living on Campus at John XXIII College.

Testimonials:

Fionn is truly an amazing person and tutor who has been incredibly helpful over the course of my year 11 and 12 English studies, helping me achieve substantial improvements in my results. This can be attributed to Fionn’s incredible familiarity with the English texts, allowing him to provide a depth of knowledge and insight which many teachers fail to reach. Additionally, as a former student, he has a strong understanding of the nature of exams and the techniques and strategies required to excel in them, something I found particularly important in the HSC as it is not just a test of knowledge. Overall, I would highly recommend Fionn to any student. He is an engaged and supportive person and an excellent tutor.

JACK BOUVIER (YEAR 12) CRANBROOK SCHOOL

I started lessons with Fionn half way through my HSC for legal studies, modern history and English Advanced. Prior to this, I was a B-range student who struggled to effectively express my knowledge and understanding of the subject within my work in a succinct and question-focused manner. However, over the course of six months working with Fionn I developed these skills to a level that would allow me to eventually succeed in the HSC, as I received band 6's in all subjects I studied with Fionn.

Alongside the improvement in results I saw overtime with Fionn, his passion and dedication in improving my work and the way I approached my schooling is unmatched to any teachers and academic mentors I've had. He provides a very carefully thought and tailored approach to his tutoring, which allowed me to actually understand the concepts and ideas I was writing about rather than regurgitating a rote-learned essay. The level of time and patience he devoted to my improvement is something I will never forget and I am forever grateful for.

SAM OLLIVER (YEAR 12) CRANBROOK SCHOOL

Fionn is a dedicated and highly observant tutor. Fionn started working with my daughter for Legal Studies this year in Year 12. My daughter was losing drive for Legal Studies and her marks were reflecting her attitude, then she began tutoring with Fionn and her attitude and marks changed dramatically. Fionn very aptly observed her weaknesses and taught her how to express what was necessary to achieve higher marks and at all times he delivered his knowledge with incredible accuracy and intelligence. Fionn's dedication and passion for teaching is inspirational.

MOTHER OF YEAR 12 STUDENT, REDDAM HOUSE
