Approach to Tutoring:

Rory focuses on igniting students’ individual faculties of critical thinking, analysis, and imagination. He emphasises the importance of personal voice and flair in writing, organically kindling each student’s unique methods of thought and expression. Rory’s tutoring is bespoke to each student, but his overall method is collaborative and reflexive. He intends to diagnose a student’s current gaps in knowledge, identify what methods of teaching engage the student, and then explore the necessary content through those methods of teaching, adjusting as the student advances to maximise academic growth.

Rory inspires avid querying and criticism, encouraging his students to write consistently to develop their expression of knowledge. Rory is a seasoned and accomplished tutor who is immensely passionate about teaching. He fundamentally believes success occurs through a meticulous balance of challenge and reward.

Biography:

Rory was born in Edinburgh and moved to the Northern Beaches of Sydney when he was two. He travelled between the United States and Europe during his adolescence. His anthology, Bloodlust, sold out during its initial release in 2022. He is currently studying at University College London.

Testimonials:

Rory is an absolutely incredible tutor. Not only is he an extremely skilled writer himself, but he understands the nuance of the HSC English program to such an impressive degree, that he was able support me in tackling each and every exam in the most effective way possible. He knows exactly when to strip the course down to its fundamentals, while also knowing how to teach the student to add flair and sophistication to their writing. By far, the most powerful aspect of Rory's tutoring is that he teaches his students how to become self sufficient in the craft of analytical and creative writing - I found this to be crucial, because it is ultimately the student that sits in the exam hall and is required to demonstrate dynamic, flexible and adaptive thinking. Thanks so much Rory!
