Lachlan is driven to enable students to reach the fullness of their academic potential, focusing on teaching his students to be adaptable and think analytically when answering any given question. He strives to ensure his students reach their personal academic goals and broaden their academic horizons.
Lachlan works by first helping students identify their strengths and weaknesses, and from there, sets targeted goals for them to improve. He helps students reflect on these through regular feedback in order to maximise their academic performance.
Lachlan endeavours to motivate each student to engage with their academic work, and foster a thorough understanding of all concepts of their work.
Lachlan grew up in Hong Kong and Japan in his earlier years, before returning to Sydney, where he attended Knox Grammar School from Year 2 through to Year 12. He graduated from Knox in 2020, with his academic results earning him both a place on the All-Round Achievers List and a Premier's Award.
At school, he admirably balanced his academics with sporting, co-curricular and leadership activities. He was an avid cricketer, playing in Knox's 2nd XI, along with playing soccer, squash and doing swimming during his time there. Further, he was involved extensively in music - playing the bagpipes, violin and trumpet, along with singing in several choirs. Finally, he held leadership positions across the Cadet Unit, Pipe Band and as a Peer Support Leader.
Lachlan was well-rounded in his performance across both essay and STEM subjects during his time at school, leading to his pursual of a degree that combines both of these facets. He will be studying Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Laws at the University of Sydney over the next 5 years.
In addition to tutoring, Lachlan enjoys co-curricular activities such as debating, singing and playing his musical instruments. He also enjoys playing and watching cricket, reading historical fiction (his favourite being the Pillars of the Earth Trilogy) and playing board games.
To any student, first hearing about the SATs is always a daunting experience, picturing them as another monumental task that seems terrifying. I first met Lachlan in the beginning of Year 12 when I decided I wanted to try and get into UCLA in the US. Besides Lachlan's breathtaking achievements, scoring a near perfect result in his own SAT, Lachlan has been amazing in his guidance to the unfamiliar components of the SAT, tirelessly working hard so that I could understand and adapt to any question the SAT could throw at me. Lachlan has been fantastic in his support, allowing me to reach my targeted score in my own SAT, which is something I am forever grateful for. Lachlan is without a doubt an amazing tutor!
