Tim is dedicated to empowering his students to reach their goals and go beyond - to become motivated and successful students. Tim helps create a deep knowledge of subjects in students that enables them to ace easy questions and critically answer the hardest questions they face. He aims to personally understand every student and empathise with how they learn best to tailor his approach.
Tim begins his journey with the student by identifying their academic aspirations. He then works to understand their strengths and weaknesses in the subject, allowing him to set personalised goals for each week. Tim provides considered and clear feedback on his student’s work and effectively prepares students for assessments so they feel less stressed.
His goal for all of his students is that they become excellent problem-solvers and can then express themselves in a clear manner, allowing them to achieve top marks. Tim believes in extending students so they can think independently and astutely, where personalised tutoring is very effective.
Tim grew up in Pennant Hills, Sydney, attending the local public school before joining Barker College in Year 7. With many exciting new opportunities at this school, Tim threw himself into robotics, music, sport, science clubs, and the CRU group, keen to make the most of everything on offer.
While studying diligently, Tim approached school with a curiosity and desire for knowledge, striving to develop a well-rounded understanding. Throughout high school, Tim thrived in project-based work, often continuing his ideas beyond the classroom and entering science competitions.
Tim’s love for problem-solving and robotics has led him to take up Mechatronics Engineering at UNSW, where he plans to study for the next four years before taking a Masters in Biomedical Engineering. In the future, Tim would love to be designing robots that help people.
As well as tutoring, Tim tinkers on projects at UNSW’s engineering faculty, coaches volleyball at Barker College and plays in the Sydney Volleyball League. He volunteers at his local church throughout the week and enjoys music, playing trombone and euphonium in a community band. When he’s got some free time he enjoys throwing a frisbee, canyoning, hiking, and camping.
