Approach to Tutoring:

Madison strives to enable students to attain a deep understanding of content and concepts, not just prepare for exams. She believes that understanding and mastering content is superior to memorisation and rote learning, encouraging students to think critically and ask questions. While this philosophy of learning extends beyond testing, seeking to inspire students to be passionate about knowledge, it also leads to being able to answer the most difficult test questions that often distinguish high achieving students.

Madison begins by collaborating with students to identify their areas of strength and weakness. She then seeks to increase their confidence in weak areas by reviewing and consolidating content to ensure they have an understanding of the central concepts. Once the student has asked questions and developed a strong conceptual foundation, Madison prioritises the application of this knowledge by working through practice questions. This enables students to work on their efficiency and examination techniques while continuing to strengthen their understanding.

Madi’s students praise her preparedness. She formulates a lesson plan and resources for each session, developed after consulting the student about their goals.

Biography:

Madison was born in Seattle, Washington in the United States. She and her family moved to Sydney when she was 10. A gifted learner even in her early years, Madison was tested as studying at the Year 8 level in US national testing in Year 2.

In 2011, after beginning Year 5 at Villa Maria Primary School in Hunters Hill, Madison was elected school captain. Madison continued to excel at Monte Sant’ Angelo Mercy College, where she was Dux of Year 7 and all successive years through Year 12. In 2017, she was elected College Captain.

While she excels in English (and topped English every year), Madison is most passionate about STEM and focused primarily on these subjects by taking Higher Level Physics, Maths and Chemistry in her International Baccalaureate. Despite a challenging course load and many extracurriculars (including representative hockey, tennis, debating and public speaking), Madison achieved a perfect 45/45 in the IB, equivalent to an ATAR of 99.95.

In 2019, Madison was admitted to Stanford University in California. She is enjoying the liberal arts style of education and exploring a plethora of subjects, as well as collaborating with passionate students and professors from around the world.
