Madeleine strongly believes that a student’s enjoyment is central to their academic success. By producing detailed lessons which extend beyond the syllabus, Madeleine encourages her students to find a love for their subject and feed their curiosity. Uniquely, Madeleine encourages her students to use lateral thinking, advocating for unconventional and creative reasoning to approach difficult questions from new and unexpected angles, thus breaking up the monotony of study.
Madeleine begins by working with her students to identify their general strength and weaknesses, and set attainable goals. Through this she is able to work alongside each student to provide personalised lessons which focalise on the needs of each individual. Madeleine believes that lessons should not be discomfortable and promotes a friendly environment where students feel equal and are able to ask questions, feel comfortable struggling and pursue clarification.
Whilst Madeleine believes curiosity and a holistic understanding of core concepts formulate success in STEM subjects, she also appreciates how time management and organisation provides clarity enables consistent studying. Madeleine’s own rigorous study imbued her with a sharp insight into examiner expectations and aids students in crafting comprehensive, high scoring answers. Through this approach, Madeleine cultivates students who possess a thorough understanding of core concepts and can translate this to high achieving results.
Madeleine grew up in Sydney’s east, attending SCEGGS Darlinghurst from Kindergarten through to Year 12 where she participated in a broad range of activities, such as volunteering, student leadership, and sports leading her to be elected as a Prefect. Madeleine graduated as the Dux of SCEGGS, having placed first in the year prior as well.
Whilst she intends to pursue a career in medicine, Madeleine decided to follow her love for science in university. She combined her interest in Physics and Mathematics with the Chemistry and Biology knowledge needed to excel in post graduate Medicine, enrolling in the Advanced stream so she could attain further knowledge and satisfy her curiosity.
In addition to tutoring, Madeleine coaches and participates in Intercollegic debating, advancing her communication and eloquence. She enjoys catching up with friends through surfing or rock climbing, reading (she is currently reading the Opium Wars by Julia Lovell), playing basketball and exploring new hikes in the Blue Mountains.
