Approach to Tutoring:

Josh promotes a meticulous, honest and efficient learning environment, enabling his students to meet and exceed their academic goals in a manner tailored to their unique needs. He works closely with his students to identify areas for improvement early on, aspiring to elucidate and resolve persistently misunderstood concepts and areas of the syllabus.

Josh inspires his students to think deeply about the most simple of concepts, exposing them to the nuances of their study and thereby sowing a real passion for their subjects. He provides regular and direct feedback both within and outside of lessons, with a view to developing his students into more confident problem solvers and scholars.

Josh prioritises realistic planning and organisation, and will work alongside his students to set goals and strive for improvement. Working ahead of their school curriculum, Josh’s students will be well equipped to master their subjects.

Biography:

Josh grew up in Rose Bay, Sydney, and attended Cranbrook School on an Academic Scholarship, graduating as Dux of the school in 2021. A prefect and house captain, Josh immersed himself in extra-curricular life, being involved in debating, rowing, orchestra, robotics and philosophy.

Outside of tutoring, Josh debates and enjoys playing violin. He is currently nearing completion of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award.

Testimonials:

After trialling several private tuition schools for three years, I can attest that Premier Tutors is second to none. They are targeted, highly effective and finely tailored to the student. The insights they have provided me and my son on what it will take to unlock full potential has been illuminating and appreciated.

Joshua is an exceptional Latin tutor for my son. He has a very pragmatic, hands-on approach while targeting grammar and translation challenges with the precision required to hone my son's learning technique and study approach. Joshua is also very caring and thoughtful, and tailors his approach depending on the current challenges while keeping an eye on the cumulative knowledge and skills required for half-year and annual examination requirements.

MOTHER OF YEAR 10 STUDENT, SYDNEY GRAMMAR

Josh tutored me in Mathematics Advanced during years 11 and 12. Josh’s passion for maths exceeds that of most teachers and enabled me to drastically improve my marks over the two years. Josh is extremely kind and understanding, meaning that he was able to explain and guide me through difficult concepts in a way that made sense to me. Josh’s extraordinary dedication during the final months and weeks leading up to the HSC saw him mark each practice paper I gave him with extensive feedback, ensuring that I was as prepared as possible.

Year 12 Cranbrook Student (ATAR: 99.20)

We found Premier Tutors after an acquaintance of ours highly recommended them from her own daughter’s experience. We are truly grateful for the recommendation. From the initial moment we reached out we could tell it was a professional team from their interactions and tutor recommendations. Our daughter was a Year 12 Maths Advanced and Extension 1 accelerant and was not happy with the group tutorial classes she was attending prior to Premier Tutors. Upon starting private individual tutorial lessons with Joshua Abelev, her outlook, confidence and performance immediately improved. The depth of the notes, and revision questions were of a very high standard, and no Maths problem seemed to phase Joshua. His tutoring style, while relaxed, also pinpointed discrete areas of focus during each lesson which was tailored to my daughter’s unique needs. Joshua was also very flexible and accommodated time changes and/or additional lessons in the lead up to peak assessment loads. He also touched in regularly with my daughter to enquire about assessments on the day they were completed. He was immensely supportive at all times and was an excellent articulator. We have no hesitation in recommending Premier Tutors and Joshua Abelev as a Mathematics tutor, to any prospective students and their families.

Father of Year 12 Student at PLC Sydney (Mathematics Result: 97/100)

Joshua has been tutoring our son for 2 years and has provided excellent support. Our son enjoys the sessions and relates well to Josh. As a result, Josh has helped our son accelerate his subject results which have improved significantly. The sessions are flexible in what they cover and Josh was able to adjust the focus to directly address areas needing improvement. Overall, our son has become more confident in these subjects. Access to past exams which are not made available by the school, provide a great benefit in preparing for mid and year-end exams.

Josh is polite and pleasant to deal with as well as flexible when changes to session times are needed. Thank you Josh for all your help.
