A tutor like no other, Jesse achieved the best results in history for HSC English. He placed outright 1$^\text{st}$ in NSW for both English Advanced and English Ext. 2, as well as 3$^\text{rd}$ in NSW for English Ext. 1. Jesse has produced exceptional results for his students, with every student that he has tutored achieving 97/100 (or higher) for the final HSC exam (and all students achieving 94/100 or higher overall). In his sixth year of tutoring, Jesse specialises in both HSC and IB English and languages (French and Latin) tutoring.

Jesse is a true expert at the ins and outs of the rubrics and marking guidelines as well as the vital focus areas of each internal and external assessment for both HSC and IB subjects. He is a friendly yet direct and clear communicator who offers comprehensive explanations for the poorly elaborated concepts in the classroom such as 'metalanguage' or 'textual integrity'. From dissecting the essay question to constructing thoughtful conclusions, Jesse's simultaneous attention to detail and consideration of the varied module-specific objectives of HSC English allows his students to perform exceedingly well in their internal and external assessments, who all achieved band 6s for English in their HSC and IB exams.

Alongside his state ranks in English, Jesse scored high band 6's for all his language subjects, including $1^\text{st}$ in NSW for Chinese Continuers. Jesse graduated as the Dux of Cranbrook School, topping his candidature for all subjects he took.

Approach to Tutoring:

Jesse's approach to each student is unique. He first works with the student to identify strengths and weaknesses in order to foster his tailored student-focused approach and strategise for the best mode of preparation for internal and external assessments.

In his lessons, Jesse emphasises the translation of thoughts and ideas into a fully cohesive and perceptive paragraphs and essay as well as the importance of voice and flair in students' writing. These skills are not text-specific but instead module-specific, which means that while each student's set texts may be different, they are in the best hands for each and every module of English Advanced, Extension 1 and Extension 2.

Ultimately, the key to effective English preparation is time management and organisation. As such, Jesse makes a point of focusing on foreplanning and personalised goal-setting so that each student's stress and nerves are managed whilst maximising their results.

Biography:

Jesse grew up in the east of Sydney Australia, attending high school at Cranbrook School from year 7, where he graduated as Dux of the school in 2019. His last-minute decision to drop Chemistry and Extension 1 Mathematics in lieu of 4 units of English and extension languages which he was more passionate for lead him to his state ranks and current tertiary studies in literature and culture. Jesse was selected to attend the top university in the world for language and cultural studies, the University of Cambridge. He completed his undergraduate in Portuguese and German, focusing on philosophy, literature and linguistics, placing 1st in his candidature at Cambridge.

Jesse now works full-time as a tutor at Premier Tutors.

Testimonials:

Jesse has just been amazing to work with over the past year; Coming into year 12 I felt I had some natural talent in English but at the same time had some trouble wrapping my head around the fundamentals, particularly with my thesis-crafting and analysis skills. What I find to be particularly tricky about English is the level of subjectivity underlying the course, and often I would end up trying to navigate through piles of different (and sometimes even conflicting) feedback from different teachers when preparing for my exams. Despite all this, from my very first lesson with Jesse it was almost as if he instinctively knew what needed to be tweaked to take my English performance across all 4 units to the next level. I watched my English results improve dramatically, and all the while enjoyed building a genuine friendship with someone who legitimately cared about my academic and personal wellbeing. He was always willing to work around my schedule when I had other commitments, looking out for me the whole way through my final year of schooling. What I think makes Jesse truly special as a tutor is the fact that despite being so clearly an extremely intelligent guy, it never feels like you’re working with someone who is just beyond your level of understanding but instead being guided by a person who uniquely understands you as a student.

Year 12 Student, Central Coast Grammar School - High Band 6's in: English Advanced, English Ext. 1 and English Ext. 2

Jesse was honestly an outstanding tutor and a major reason why I was able to achieve a 99.50 ATAR in the HSC. After sitting my first English Advanced assessment and being disappointed with a 10/20 for my common module essay and an overall assessment mark of 69%, I turned to Jesse for assistance. Straight away, I saw his knowledge and experience in English and teaching it; his lessons were very individualised and he had a knack for discerning areas of improvement, such as my initial thesis and cohesiveness when creating an ‘essay skeleton’. This personalised approach was invaluable to my improvement, and certainly triumphed over a group tutoring centre that I visited prior which lacked the insight and specificity that Jesse provided in his feedback. He was really kind and provided imperative advice to anything I sent him both in and out of lessons from rephrasing sentences to evaluating my written introductions. These things not only enabled me to achieve a 20/20 for the same essay in the HSC, but motivated me to improve in all areas of English, culminating in an overall mark of 94. So, if you’d like a tutor who knows what he’s talking about, who provides useful and impactful feedback, and strives to see you improve in English, then Jesse is your guy!

MARCUS, YEAR 12 STUDENT (94/100 IN ENGLISH ADV.)

Jesse was honestly the best tutor I could have ever asked for! Jesse started tutoring me for English Advanced and English Extension 1 around Term 2 of Year 12. I was struggling a bit (especially in Extension) and felt like I needed the extra help to ensure I could achieve the best marks possible. Jesse’s lessons were highly personalised and tailored to whatever needs I had, and involved things like going through the rubrics and texts with me, helping me plan out my practice responses, and then providing me with constructive feedback and edits on full drafts of my practice responses. He was always very clear in the way he communicated and would always be open to answer any questions I had. He made sure I was on top of everything my school was teaching me, but also pushed me to go above and beyond that. He had a wealth of knowledge that he imparted to me, that matched even some of the most experienced teachers. I felt like I grew immensely as a student of English with Jesse, which was reflected in my final marks of 97/100 in English Advanced, 47/50 in English Extension 1 and an ATAR of 99.45. I would never have been able to achieve these marks without him. Not only this, Jesse was such a nice and friendly person and super easy to talk to, and I would always look forward to our lessons. I would 100% recommend Jesse to anyone.
