James seeks to create a learning environment that maximises engagement from each individual student and is a firm believer that the key to understanding one’s specific needs is implicitly linked with a strong rapport between tutee and tutor. As such, students can expect to develop a strong working relationship with James.
While his primary concern is with addressing the individual concerns and nuances of each particular student, James aims to address the most abstract ideas within his fields of expertise and break them down into their fundamentally tangible concepts. From this, James fosters a holistic and in-depth understanding of complex concepts that allow students to excel.
Furthermore, James promotes organisational skills as the key to success and aims to instil these ideas from the beginning. No stranger to the rigours of balancing extra-curricular activities and academic workload, James serves as a relatable tutor for the busiest of students and models traits that enable success in all facets of one’s school life.
James grew up in Brisbane before moving to Sydney’s Upper North Shore, attending Holy Family at Lindfield before moving to St Aloysius’ College from Year 5 to 12. In recent years, James has made the move to the Lower North Shore and graduated as Dux Proxime at St Aloysius in 2016. During his time at school, James made the most of his opportunities, holding leadership positions such as College Prefect, Cadet CUO, St Vincent de Paul Vice President and captaining his respective football and cricket teams.
After school, James began studies at the University of Sydney in Science, pursuing passions in mathematics, statistics and chemistry. In keeping with his academically curious and well-rounded nature, James additionally pursued passions in languages during his degree, studying Japanese alongside his science degree. Perhaps the most exciting chapter of his life to date was when he participated in an exchange semester in 2018 to the University of Pennsylvania, where he learnt the art of negotiations at the esteemed Wharton School.
James is currently studying a Doctor of Medicine postgraduate at the University of Sydney.
