Approach to Tutoring:

Grace's approach to teaching English is highly personalised. It is determined equally by the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and aims to build off what a student 'already knows' to make English a more accessible, intuitive and ultimately exciting area of study. Grace helps students to see English as both structured or linear and as something larger than its parts. While she breaks down the subject to allow for clarity and focused goal-setting – moving from textual analysis, to conceptual synthesis, to effective essay-writing and exam-specific adaptation – she also works to foster the breadth of vocabulary and genuine critical thinking that ensure exceptional results. She works closely with students to help them manage their time outside lessons, and empowers them to develop a clear sense of their own academic goals.

Biography:

Grace attended Mount Carmel College, where she graduated Dux, placing first in her candidature for all her HSC subjects. She commenced a Bachelor of Arts/Law at the University of Sydney, and has since worked in legal research at the University of Cambridge and the University of Sydney. After studying and working in the law for four years she decided to solely pursue her passion for English. She is currently pursuing postgraduate English study at the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom furthering her passion for American poetry.

Outside lessons, Grace can be found reading, writing and reviewing poems. Her own writing has been published in various literary journals. She has a long-standing passion for volunteer work, and is currently a board member of a national charity providing mentoring to school students in out-of-home care.

Premier Tutors is a phenomenal service which has helped me deeply in reaching my full potential for the HSC examination. The teachers are truly phenomenal, coming from the top schools in Sydney and also deeply informed in their areas of expertise. It's an inspiring experience and definitely something you should consider if you want to improve on your current knowledge and aim towards academic excellence.

I was lucky enough to have Grace as my teacher for year 12, her expertise in all areas of English has helped me to gain deeper insight into my own areas of study to produce works that are of extremely high level. Her passion for English and understanding of literature as a whole has also been deeply inspiring, propelling me to think critically about English texts on an analytical, creative and discursive level. I am really lucky to have had the opportunity to work with such an amazing and talented tutor!
