Approach to Tutoring:

Lachlan is tenacious in inspiring students to be passionate about their subjects, helping them to realise their academic and intellectual potential. Lachlan begins by assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each individual student and from there, he carefully crafts a schedule suited to them, providing regular feedback on their work to ensure the student's improvement.

In the humanities, Lachlan’s experience has taught him that forward planning is integral to the success of both the student and teacher - being able to make a detailed timetable of when to prepare and learn essays and notes makes it much easier to improve a student’s work.

Moreover, Lachlan finds that communication is undoubtedly the most important element of effective tutoring and as a tutor, cadet, debater and athlete, Lachlan works effectively with others to ensure that all tutoring remains flexible, as he believes that it works best if it remains adaptable to the individual student.

Biography:

Lachlan grew up in Woollahra, Sydney, attending Woollahra Public School from Kindergarten through to Year 4. He then moved to Sydney Grammar School which he has attended from Year 5 through to Year 12, receiving a full academic scholarship from Year 7-12.

At school, balanced with his academic pursuits (especially in English and History) Lachie relished the opportunity to participate in boundary-pushing activities such as Army Cadets and Gold Duke of Edinburgh hikes.

He also was heavily involved in team activities such as debating, mock trial cricket for the school's First XI. Inspired by his participation in Model United Nations and interest in global affairs, Lachlan has recently moved to Canberra to study Law/International Relations at Australian National University, where he plans to study for the next five years.

Over the summer holidays, Lachlan has attended the National Finals for Model UN, has taken up Muay Thai boxing and has begun preparation for learning Spanish at university. He is excited to immerse himself in university societies, particularly anything to do with sport, problem-solving or public speaking. Lachlan also enjoys social sport, camping, hiking and rock climbing.
